Death Valley is, of course, a valley. As such, it is composed of two primary components; the flat part and the hilly part. Much of our time there was spent traveling through various canyons. The fist one we entered was Golden Canyon. This shot is from the entrance looking out.

The Valley Floor

We arrived early in the morning, which worked out perfectly because the canyon is named for its color. Sunrise is just the right time for the golden hues to be brought out, according to people in the know. For a hint at the scale, look near the bottom of the picture. There’s a person there.

Golden Canyon

As so often happens in the desert, the sky overhead was the clearest blue I think I’ve ever seen in my life. Any clouds were a luxury that were to be savored. The plane didn’t exactly provide any shade.

The Wild Blue Yonder

This next shot speaks for itself. This time there’s two people in frame.

Climbing the Canyon

After hiking up through the main drag, we were able to see this large tower. I’m sure it has a name, I just can’t quite remember what it was. Sure was tall, either way.

The Nameless Tower

We rounded the corner and saw this path. I promise that it wasn’t as terrifying as it looked.

Acrophobia Says Hello

I mentioned two posts ago how my dad spent a lot of time towing people around the lake. I tried to get some pictures on one of those outings, with mediocore results. Still, pictures are pictures, so here they are.

First up is the captain of the entire affair, my father. He’s a good boat driver.

The Captain

The first thing we did was to get my sister and sme of my younger cousins out tubing. I’m not a huge fan of the tube because the rider has almost no control, which I loathe. They enjoyed it though, so whatever.

They Weren't Going So Fast

We didn’t have our ski around on this particular trip, so there was no skiing, but we did go kneeboarding. Here’s my sister coming back from her trip around the lake. She has a big smile quite a lot of the time.

Swimming Back

And here’s one of the few pictures of myself on this site. Curiously, I’ve yet to appear with a shirt on. Diabolical master plan or harmless coincidence? You decide.

Thumbs Up, Mate

During the tubing I got bored because the kids didn’t want a lot of bumpiness. I started taking pictures of clouds to kill time. Here’s one of them.

Clouds!
